New Twist in Cyrus Jirongo's Death Probe As Seven Passengers From ill-fated Bus Record Statement

Following the incident, the DCI immediately launched a thorough investigation, deploying a multi-disciplinary team that included homicide detectives, forensic experts, and specialists from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau. The team visited the scene, collected and preserved key evidence, recovered CCTV footage from nearby petrol stations, and analyzed the bus manifest and amateur videos from the accident site.

Statements have been recorded from key witnesses, including the deceased’s wife, Ann Lanoi Pertet, the bus driver, conductor, and staff from the petrol station. Several high-profile individuals who had interacted with Hon. Jirongo shortly before the incident, including National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, voluntarily came forward to provide information. Seven passengers from the ill-fated bus also presented themselves to assist investigators, and their statements were duly recorded.

Additional statements were taken from close associates of the late leader, including George Khaniri and his wife Eunice Chelagat. The couple visited the scene on the day of the accident and assisted in transferring Hon. Jirongo’s remains to the funeral home.

Autopsy findings revealed that Jirongo suffered multiple crush injuries, including a broken sternum and lacerations to the heart, liver, and kidneys. The pathologist concluded that his death was caused by blunt force trauma consistent with a severe road traffic accident.
