Puzzle as Pastor James Irungu faints, rushed to hospital after hugging a tree for 79 hours in Murang'a, he was attempting to set an 80-hour record

Pastor James Irungu from Murang’a has touched the hearts of many Kenyans after collapsing just minutes before completing an 80-hour tree-hugging challenge meant to create cancer awareness.

Irungu had set out to hug a tree continuously for 80 hours to draw attention to the growing number of cancer cases in Kenya. His bold move quickly went viral, attracting both praise and criticism on social media.

Some Kenyans accused him of copying environmental activist Truphena Muthoni, who earlier attempted a similar challenge.

However, Irungu strongly denied the claims, saying his mission was purely to speak about cancer and encourage early testing.

The pastor remained firm at the tree day and night, enduring cold weather, fatigue, and physical pain.

Supporters gathered at the site to encourage him, while others followed his journey online.

His sister was seen breaking down in tears as she watched her brother struggle through the final hours of the challenge.

Sadly, Irungu collapsed after reaching 79 hours and 40 minutes, just 20 minutes short of his goal.

He was rushed to Murang’a Level 5 Hospital, where doctors confirmed that he was in stable condition.

Photos shared online showed him resting in hospital, surrounded by family and close friends.

Despite failing to reach the full 80 hours, many Kenyans praised Irungu for his courage and determination.

Social media users described him as a fighter and a hero, saying his message mattered more than the record.

Messages of encouragement flooded Facebook and X, with many agreeing that lasting nearly 80 hours without preparation was no small achievement.

Truphena Muthoni also showed support by visiting Irungu during the challenge. Her gesture helped silence critics who claimed the pastor was copying her.

Truphena later reminded the public about the importance of being medically fit before attempting such endurance challenges.

Irungu’s story has sparked conversations about cancer awareness, personal sacrifice, and the power of social media activism.

Though he did not complete the challenge, his effort succeeded in bringing attention to a disease that affects thousands of Kenyan families every year.
