If you are a fan of Kikuyu gospel music you have probably come across the talented musician Beth Maina.
A few hours ago, she was featured in a live interview with Jeff Kuria, where she l shared her inspiring story and the challenges she has faced throughout her music journey.
Beth Maina revealed that she was born and raised in Murang’a County, but unfortunately, she never had the chance to meet her parents.
She was raised by her grandparents, who took care of her and ensured she received education up to secondary school level.
After completing school in 1998, Beth moved to Nairobi to live with her aunt. Life in the city was not easy, and she began selling second-hand clothes (mitumba) to earn a living. Despite the struggles, she remained hopeful and hardworking.
Her passion for music began to take shape around 2006, when she started singing professionally.
Her first album became an instant hit, gaining her popularity within the Kikuyu gospel music scene.
However, her success took an unexpected and frightening turn when her hit song “Nyumagiriria” was allegedly taken over by the Mungiki sect, which was a notorious group at the time.
She only realized this after the song became widespreadbbut she was not the one distributing it.
Concerned about what was happening, Beth decided to confront the group’s leader. To her shock, she was told to choose between her life or the song.
Out of fear for her safety, she chose to abandon the song completely, despite it being her biggest hit at the time.
Although that experience was a major setback, Beth Maina did not give up on her dream.
Over the years, she has released several other gospel songs that continue to bless and inspire her fans.
She remains positive about her future and believes that her best days in music are still ahead. Watch the full video below and share your views with us.
