Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) official Peter Mbae has suggested that Kenya’s opposition coalition could abandon the Azimio la Umoja name as political parties begin restructuring ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Mbae made the remarks during an interview with K24 TV on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, while discussing ongoing efforts by opposition leaders to create a broader political arrangement capable of bringing together different parties and political interests.
According to the DCP Secretary for Planning and Economic Affairs, discussions are underway to establish a new coalition structure that would accommodate various political groups without necessarily requiring them to operate under one party.
Mbae indicated that the emerging arrangement could adopt a completely different identity from the existing Azimio brand, suggesting that the coalition's future name may not retain the word “Azimio.”
"We are coming up with a new structure, a new coalition. The members, as you saw yesterday, have a right to organise themselves at that level, but we are going to see a major, more national movement that may not end up with the word ‘Azimio’," Mbae declared.
