Residents of Thunguma area in Nyeri County were left in shock after a 40-year-old man allegedly set his parents’ house on fire following a dispute over Sh100.
According to local authorities, the suspect is said to have gone to his parents’ home demanding money from his elderly mother. When she declined to give him the Sh100 he was asking for, an argument reportedly erupted, quickly escalating into a violent confrontation.
Witnesses say the man stormed out of the house in anger before returning moments later with a flammable substance, which he used to set part of the house ablaze. The fire spread rapidly, destroying household property and leaving the family counting heavy losses.
Neighbours rushed to the scene after noticing smoke billowing from the compound and managed to put out the fire before it completely consumed the house. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, although the elderly parents were left traumatised by the ordeal.
