Speaking in the context of shifting political alliances and recent electoral outcomes, Wambugu argued that the traditional political dominance of Mt Kenya is no longer the sole determinant of presidential success.
According to Wambugu, Kenya’s electoral arithmetic has fundamentally changed. He explained that national coalitions, regional voting blocs, and strategic alliances now carry more weight than reliance on one dominant region.
While Mt Kenya remains politically significant, he noted that Ruto’s broader national strategy is anchored on consolidating support across Rift Valley, Western Kenya, parts of Eastern Kenya, the Coast, and key urban centres.
This diversified support base, Wambugu said, reduces Ruto’s dependence on massive Mt Kenya turnout.
