Speaking during the ODM Youth Convention in Busia County, Arati said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is open to either fielding a presidential candidate or settling for the deputy president position, depending on how negotiations unfold.
He explained that if ODM produces a deputy presidential candidate, then Ruto would run for president.However, if the party fronts a presidential candidate, then Ruto could take up the running mate position.
Arati’s remarks come amid growing calls within ODM for the party to secure a top seat in government should the proposed broad-based political arrangement with Ruto’s camp be formalised.
ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga reaffirmed the party’s readiness to support President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid, but emphasized that such support must come with a significant stake in government.
She noted that ODM has several capable leaders who can serve as deputy president. Wanga further stated that the party would rally behind any candidate agreed upon internally, maintaining that ODM has no shortage of qualified individuals for the role.
