"No It Is NOT Me" Uhuru Kenyatta Boldly Dismiss Claims Of Sending Gachagua To Hold This Major Meeting

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has dismissed several claims doing the rounds on social media, including assertions that he directed Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua to organise a major political meeting bringing together leaders from the Mt Kenya region.

In a statement issued by his office on Thursday, Uhuru said allegations circulating on social media linking him to the planned mobilisation were 'false and misleading', warning the public against sharing unverified information attributed to him.

The statement, released by his Secretary of Communication Kanze Dena Mararo, said the posts being circulated were unauthorised and did not reflect Uhuru’s views or position on Mt Kenya politics or any ongoing political processes.

“The Office of the 4th President, Uhuru Kenyatta, has observed with concern the deliberate circulation of false and misleading content on social media platforms,” the statement read.

At the same time, Uhuru’s office clarified that any communication from the retired President would only be issued through verified platforms linked to the Office of the 4th President or official Jubilee Party channels.

"We urge all citizens to exercise vigilance, verify information before sharing, and avoid amplifying falsehoods that erode public trust. The dignity of the Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya remains paramount."

The clarification follows claims attributed to Uhuru, suggesting he had asked Gachagua to organise his team ahead of a meeting aimed at uniting Mt Kenya leaders to address political challenges facing the region.

Another viral post, which was being circulated on social media and dated January 26, and also attributed to Uhuru, claimed he was unwell and deeply concerned about the political direction of the country and the treatment of citizens, including children being teargassed in church.

The developments come as the political situation in the Mt Kenya region remains tense, with DCP leader Gachagua pushing for the unification of the region's vote-rich bloc under his leadership.

Uhuru has appeared to maintain a distance from Gachagua and his camp, declaring that his Jubilee Party will support Fred Matiang'i for President in 2027.

As the race to the 2027 elections continues to intensify, Uhuru's Jubilee Party announced Jeremiah Kioni as Deputy Party Leader last Thursday in a string of changes to its leadership.

In a statement on Thursday, January 22, the party indicated that former Narok Member of Parliament Richard Ole Kenta is the new Secretary General, replacing Kioni.

Other appointments approved after the meeting include Zack Kinuthia as Deputy Secretary General, Yassin Noor Haji as National Organising Secretary, and Vincent Mogaka Kimoki as Chairperson.

Others include Dan Mwangi as Executive Director, Kiembi Gitura as Director of Elections, Peter Kados as Chair of the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome as Jubilee Foundation Public Policy Director.
