Why Wetang’ula Is Likely to Edge Out Mudavadi In Western Kenya Political Leadership

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula is increasingly being viewed as a leading political figure eyeing Western Kenya’s support ahead of the 2032 presidential election, as succession politics begin to take shape early.

His growing political visibility is linked to intensified regional tours, often accompanied by governors, senators, and MPs who publicly signal backing for his national ambitions in the coming cycle.

The political momentum around Wetang’ula has been partly shaped by the perceived vacuum in Western Kenya leadership following the reduced national visibility of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

This has created space for new alignments within the region, with local leaders rallying around emerging contenders ahead of the next election cycle.

Political discussions in the region are also being framed around President William Ruto’s expected bid for a second and final term, which is reshaping early succession calculations.

Analysts note that aspirants like Wetang’ula are positioning themselves strategically to consolidate regional support before national competition intensifies.
