Martha Ochieng said she was arrested during a long-distance journey over a minor traffic-related offence and taken to a local police station for processing.
She explained that instead of being held in a female cell as required, she was allegedly locked up with male detainees, a decision she says exposed her to serious danger.
According to her account, the cell was overcrowded and hostile, with male inmates verbally harassing and threatening her soon after she was placed inside.
She further alleged that she was later subjected to repeated sexual assault while in custody.
Ochieng said she remained in the cell for several hours in fear and distress before a friend managed to intervene and secure her release from the station.
