The tragedy came to light at around 6:00 am on Wednesday when a female relative stepped out of her house to fetch water and made a shocking discovery.
She reportedly found the body of her brother-in-law, identified as Kennedy Kabaiku, hanging from an avocado tree within the family compound with a sisal rope tied around his neck.
Distressed by the scene, she raised an alarm before proceeding to check inside the house occupied by the deceased and his family.
Inside the house, she discovered the lifeless bodies of Kabaiku’s wife, Susan Wambui, 26, and their two-and-a-half-year-old son. Both victims were lying in pools of blood.
Police officers who responded to the scene recovered a blood-stained panga beside the bed, which investigators believe may have been used in the attack.
Preliminary findings indicate that the mother and child sustained fatal cuts to the neck.
Crime scene investigators from Kiambu later documented and processed the scene as detectives launched investigations to establish the sequence of events leading to the deaths.
Investigators also recovered what is believed to be a suicide note reportedly shared through the deceased’s social media status before the incident.
