Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba was on Wednesday arrested and locked in a cell at the Parliament Police Station under circumstances that sparked outrage and raised serious questions about the rule of law in Kenya.
According to information from those close to her, Orwoba was not only detained but was beaten up while in police custody.
What has added fuel to the fire is the claim that officers are now scheming on which offence to charge her with suggesting that the arrest came first, with the justification to follow later.
The situation was made more alarming by the fact that the High Court had previously ordered the Senate to reinstate Orwoba.
Despite this court order, the Senate Speaker, working alongside the Senate Clerk, appeared to have pushed back against the ruling.
