Ruto Hits the Ground Running as UDA Grassroots Elections Kick Off in Uasin Gishu

Dressed in his signature casual campaign attire, Ruto arrived at the polling centre early in the day, casting his vote alongside local residents. His presence electrified the atmosphere as party supporters and aspirants gathered to witness what many are calling a symbolic show of leadership from the top.

The grassroots polls, which aim to elect UDA officials from the ward to national level, are seen as a critical step in reorganizing the party following internal wrangles and emerging factional interests within the ruling coalition.

Ruto’s active participation is also viewed as an attempt to encourage transparency, unity, and discipline within the party ranks.

“We are building a party of the future. One that is driven by the people and rooted in democracy,” Ruto said after casting his vote. “This election is about giving every UDA member a voice.”

Political analysts believe Ruto’s decision to involve himself directly in the local party processes is a strategic masterstroke, aimed at neutralizing dissent and reinforcing his influence from the ground up.

It also comes at a time when murmurs of discontent and emerging alliances threaten to shake the UDA’s internal cohesion.

The Koilel event attracted a large crowd, with tight security and party officials ensuring a smooth voting process. Local leaders hailed the exercise as peaceful and praised the President’s decision to lead by example.

With grassroots elections ongoing across other counties, all eyes are now on how the results will shape the UDA’s leadership structure and whether Ruto can maintain full control as succession politics begin to unfold.
