At the center of this delicate dance is Suna East MP and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, whose recent overtures toward Ruto have sparked both opportunity and controversy.
According to political analyst Prof. Herman Manyora, a renowned commentator on Kenyan governance and opposition dynamics, Ruto must approach his dealings with Junet with utmost tact to avoid fracturing potential coalitions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Prof. Manyora, speaking in a recent interview on local media, emphasized that Junet represents a critical bridge between Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and ODM's grassroots base, particularly in Nyanza region.
"Junet Mohamed is not just any politician; he's a strategist who has embedded himself deeply in ODM's power structures," Manyora explained.
"But he's also a lightning rod for criticism within his own party. Ruto needs to handle him carefully treat him as an asset without making him the face of the alliance, or risk alienating ODM's loyalists who see him as a sellout."
