Mtwapa Traffic Officer Arrested After EACC Seizes Suspected Bribe Money, Ksh 13,750, in Ksh 100 Notes, Recovered From The Suspect

A traffic police officer based in Mtwapa has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of soliciting bribes from motorists.

The officer, identified as Mazera Haron, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning following an intelligence-led operation conducted after several days of surveillance by EACC officers.

The arrest took place along the Mtwapa–Malindi Road, an area reportedly linked to repeated complaints from road users.

During the operation, investigators recovered Ksh 13,750, all in Ksh 100 notes, from the suspect. The cash is believed to be proceeds of corrupt dealings obtained while the officer was on duty.

After the arrest, Haron was escorted to the EACC Upper Coast Regional offices in Malindi, where he is currently being held as investigations continue.

The commission is expected to determine whether formal charges will be preferred once inquiries are completed.

Confirming the arrest, the EACC Deputy Regional Manager said the commission remains firm in its resolve to root out corruption within public service, particularly among law enforcement officers entrusted with upholding the law.

The commission encouraged members of the public to continue reporting corruption cases, noting that such information plays a critical role in strengthening accountability and integrity across government institutions.
