Political Storm in Western Kenya as Khalwale and Natembeya Back Sifuna, Putting Mudavadi and Wetang’ula Under Pressure Ahead of 2027

A fresh political debate is taking shape in Western Kenya after prominent regional leaders publicly endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as a potential political kingpin for the Luhya community ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The unexpected endorsement, led by Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, has intensified discussions about the future political direction of the Mulembe nation and the influence of established leaders such as Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

Speaking during a public gathering in Bungoma County over the weekend, Khalwale declared that Sifuna had earned the confidence of influential leaders from the region and should now take up a greater leadership role.

According to the senator, the community requires a new generation of leadership capable of championing development and securing a stronger position in national politics.
