Speaking at a church service on Sunday, June 28, Murkomen alleged that security agencies had gathered intelligence linking Gachagua to the deployment of suspected goons in various parts of Nairobi during the demonstrations.
According to the Interior CS, the groups were reportedly stationed in areas such as Kayole and along Thika Road, where incidents of unrest and disruption were reported.
Murkomen claimed that law enforcement officers had placed Gachagua under close surveillance throughout the day as authorities monitored developments linked to the protests.
“We had officers positioned and monitoring the situation closely. If he had stepped out to execute what we believed was the plan, action would have been taken immediately,” Murkomen said.
The Cabinet Secretary further revealed that police officers had been deployed around Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence. He stated that security agencies were prepared to arrest the former Deputy President if circumstances warranted such action.
“We were not after his life as he has claimed. Our objective was to restrict movements that we believed could escalate insecurity and disorder,” Murkomen added.
