Jubilations Rocks United Opposition Through DCP as MP Charles Keter Joins Vincent Rotich's Campaigns

Former Member of Parliament and former Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter has publicly declared his support for the United Opposition alliance associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka through the DCP party, in a move that could reshape political alignments in the Rift Valley region ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Keter, who has served in various senior government positions and has years of parliamentary experience, announced his backing while campaigning for Emurua Dikirr parliamentary aspirant Hon. Vincent Rotich during a phone conversation that was later shared among supporters.

His endorsement is being viewed by political observers as a major boost for the opposition camp, which has been working to strengthen its presence in regions traditionally considered strongholds of the ruling side.

The development comes at a critical moment as the United Opposition intensifies preparations for the upcoming by-election scheduled for May 14.

The opposition coalition has already fronted Hon. Vincent Rotich as its preferred candidate in the contest.

Rotich is expected to face stiff competition from candidates affiliated with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and other contenders seeking the seat.

Supporters of the opposition believe Keter’s entry into the DCP camp could significantly enhance the coalition’s influence in the larger Rift Valley region.

The area remains politically strategic because of its large voting population and its historical importance in national elections.

Analysts say Keter’s decision may also signal growing dissatisfaction among some former allies of the government, especially leaders seeking new political platforms ahead of the country’s future elections.

His longstanding political experience and influence in Rift Valley politics are expected to help the opposition expand its grassroots networks and mobilization efforts.

The United Opposition, spearheaded by Gachagua and Kalonzo, has recently stepped up efforts to recruit influential political figures from different regions as part of a broader strategy to build a stronger national movement.

The alliance has consistently presented itself as an alternative political force capable of challenging the ruling establishment in future elections.

As campaigning continues ahead of the by-election, attention is now turning to whether Keter’s endorsement will translate into increased support for Vincent Rotich and strengthen the opposition’s standing in a region that has traditionally played a decisive role in Kenya’s political landscape.
