The massive development, estimated to cost approximately KSh42 billion, is expected to transform the country's conference tourism sector and position Nairobi among Africa’s leading destinations for international meetings, exhibitions, and diplomatic summits.
According to the latest construction updates, the project had reached 35.16 percent overall completion by May 22, while the main structural works visible from Lang’ata Road were already more than 80 percent complete.
The impressive structure has become a prominent feature of Nairobi’s skyline and offers a glimpse into the scale of what is expected to become one of the continent’s largest convention facilities.
Once completed, the centre will have the capacity to host up to 11,000 delegates simultaneously, significantly expanding Kenya’s ability to accommodate major international events.

At the heart of the complex will be a state-of-the-art 5,000-seat auditorium designed for high-level conferences, summits, and large public gatherings.
The facility will also include a second conference hall capable of accommodating 3,500 participants, providing flexibility for multiple events to run concurrently.
In addition, planners have incorporated a grand banquet ballroom intended for official state functions, corporate events, and large social gatherings.
To further enhance its functionality, the complex will feature 35 modern meeting rooms equipped to support seminars, workshops, and business discussions.
The development spans more than 100,000 square metres and is designed to meet international standards expected of premier convention destinations.

Construction reports indicate that steel framework and curtain wall installations are progressing steadily, while roofing and waterproofing works continue across different sections of the facility.
Interior finishing works have also commenced as contractors move into more advanced construction phases.
Among the most striking features of the project is the planned Presidential Pavilion, a highly secure facility covering approximately 5,200 square metres.

The pavilion is designed to host up to 30 visiting heads of state at the same time, reflecting Kenya’s growing role as a diplomatic and conference hub within Africa.
Beyond conference facilities, the master plan envisions a fully integrated destination capable of supporting large international gatherings without relying heavily on external infrastructure.

Plans include the construction of at least five luxury hotels, a modern shopping and retail complex, recreational facilities, and residential developments that will cater to visitors, delegates, and support staff attending events at the venue.
Transport infrastructure has also been incorporated into the ambitious blueprint. The project will feature a dedicated heliport for VIP and emergency operations, extensive parking areas, and a multi-agency ring road network designed to ease traffic flow and improve accessibility.

Although some of these supporting facilities are yet to enter full construction phases, they form a critical component of the overall vision.
A unique aspect of the convention centre is its planned Cultural and Heritage Zone, which aims to celebrate Kenya’s rich diversity.

The section will include a modern amphitheatre and exhibition spaces showcasing traditional architecture, cultural artefacts, indigenous attire, and the history of various Kenyan communities.
Developers believe the cultural component will enhance the visitor experience while promoting domestic tourism and national heritage.
The project will also feature an animal orphanage, integrating wildlife conservation and tourism into the broader complex. This addition is expected to provide educational and recreational opportunities for both local and international visitors.
Being implemented through a partnership involving the Ministry of Defence, the Kenya Defence Forces, and an international construction contractor, the project is scheduled for completion in September 2026.
