In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Omanga accused Omar of engaging in tribal profiling and called on him to show greater respect to Uhuru and the wider Mt Kenya community.
Her comments have reignited debate about the relationship between President William Ruto’s allies and leaders from the region that played a central role in the formation and electoral success of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
According to Omanga, the Mt Kenya voting bloc was instrumental in helping build UDA into a national political force and played a decisive role in President Ruto’s victory during the 2022 General Election.
According to Omanga, the Mt Kenya voting bloc was instrumental in helping build UDA into a national political force and played a decisive role in President Ruto’s victory during the 2022 General Election.
She argued that such contributions should not be forgotten and that political disagreements should not translate into attacks against the region or its leaders.
“Hassan Omar STOP tribal profiling and show respect to former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Kikuyu community. The truth is that Kikuyu votes played a major role in building UDA and making Kasongo president. Shame that there are even MPs from the region cheering such remarks. Hehehe… enyewe kuna urogi,” Omanga wrote.
Her remarks appeared to be directed not only at Omar but also at elected leaders from Mt Kenya who have publicly sided with critics of the former Head of State. The outspoken politician expressed surprise that some lawmakers from the region would celebrate attacks against a leader who remains influential among many residents.
The controversy stems from a series of recent political statements attributed to Hassan Omar, in which he reportedly accused Uhuru of backing opposition efforts aimed at weakening President Ruto’s administration. The allegations have intensified political rivalry as various factions begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Political observers note that the exchange reflects broader tensions within Kenya’s evolving political landscape. While some leaders within the Kenya Kwanza alliance have sought to distance themselves from Uhuru’s legacy, others continue to acknowledge his influence, particularly within Mt Kenya where he remains a significant political figure despite leaving office.
The debate has also highlighted growing divisions over the future direction of regional politics. Some leaders have embraced President Ruto’s administration wholeheartedly, while others have maintained closer ties to Uhuru or opposition figures seeking to reshape the country's political alliances.
Omanga’s intervention has generated mixed reactions online. Supporters praised her for defending the role played by Mt Kenya voters in national politics and for speaking out against what they viewed as unnecessary attacks on the former president. Critics, however, argued that political leaders should focus more on policy issues affecting Kenyans rather than engaging in public disputes over personalities.
As discussions continue across social media and political forums, the incident underscores the delicate balancing act facing leaders seeking to maintain support within Mt Kenya while navigating shifting national alliances. With the 2027 election cycle gradually taking shape, observers expect political rhetoric to intensify as various camps compete for influence and regional support.
For now, Omanga’s remarks have added another chapter to the ongoing debate surrounding Uhuru Kenyatta’s place in Kenya’s political future and the growing contest over who will shape the country’s next political realignment.
