In a statement issued after the conclusion of the marking exercise, KNEC said the affected candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice, including collusion, possession of unauthorised materials, and the use of mobile phones during examinations. The council emphasised that the cancellations were carried out strictly in line with the law and existing examination regulations.
The 2025 KCSE examinations were conducted between October 21 and November 21, 2025, following earlier oral and practical assessments. A total of 996,226 candidates were registered for the exams, with 492,012 males and 501,214 females sitting the tests across the country.
The KCSE formed part of a wider national assessment cycle that also included the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the inaugural Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), bringing the total number of learners assessed nationally to more than 3.4 million.
