Caroline Makena is accused of using another woman’s identity to fraudulently secure employment with the Teachers Service Commission. Investigations show that she allegedly earned Ksh 294,134 while teaching at Doldol Primary School in Laikipia North Sub-County.
Police say she was arrested and charged with unlawfully obtaining public funds, adding to earlier impersonation charges already before the court. According to court filings, Makena is said to have used falsified academic credentials and official documents that did not belong to her.
Detectives further allege that she provided misleading personal details at TSC offices in Laikipia as part of an elaborate plan to get hired. The court allowed her to continue staying out on cash bail after observing that she is facing comparable accusations in a separate matter.
The latest developments have drawn national attention and sparked debate within the education sector. Local education stakeholders have expressed alarm, arguing that the case reveals serious loopholes in teacher recruitment procedures.
Many are now urging the Teachers Service Commission to strengthen its verification systems to prevent similar incidents. The matter will be mentioned again in court as prosecutors prepare to present further evidence, while the accused continues to face mounting public scrutiny.
