“Tawe, Tawe” Chants Erupt as Mudavadi Takes Swipe at Sifuna, Kalonzo During Westland Meeting

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi was briefly rocked with loud “Tawe, Tawe” chants during a political gathering in Westlands, Nairobi, as he hit out at opposition leaders Edwin Sifuna and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Mudavadi, who was addressing members of the Mulembe community, posed a bold question to the crowd, whether Sifuna, Kalonzo, or even Rigathi Gachagua could defeat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.

The crowd responded instantly with chants of “Tawe,” a Luhya phrase used to strongly reject a suggestion, signaling disbelief that the opposition leaders could unseat Ruto.
