"You Stand Impeached, Ineligible To Vie For Presidency" Cherargei Tells Rigathi Gachagua

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has strongly declared that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is not eligible to contest in the 2027 presidential race or any other political position because of his impeachment.

Speaking during a public meeting in Chesumei Constituency, Nandi County, Cherargei, who is also a lawyer, explained that the Constitution of Kenya bars anyone who has been impeached from holding public office.

He questioned why Gachagua’s name continues to feature in political discussions despite this clear provision.
“Once a leader has been impeached, the law is very clear – you cannot seek any elective seat again. Gachagua knows this, yet he keeps insisting he will run for president. That is misleading to his supporters,” Cherargei said.
