Many Kenyans had believed that his body was taken to Lee Funeral Home after arriving in the country. However, Raila’s elder brother, Dr. Oburu Oginga, has now explained that this did not happen as planned.
Speaking in an interview, Oburu said the family had organized for the body to be moved from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport straight to Lee Funeral Home for professional preservation.
But things changed when thousands of mourners crowded the airport to receive the body.
The huge crowd made it impossible for the vehicle carrying the casket to leave as scheduled.
“The number of people at the airport was unbelievable. They refused to let the body go because of their love and respect for Raila,” Oburu said.
“The family and security officials tried to manage the situation, but the crowd was too emotional.”
According to Oburu, the confusion forced the organizers to divert the procession to Kasarani Stadium, where even more supporters had gathered.
