Speaking recently, Kajwang said ODM’s support has been the backbone of Ruto’s administration since the passing of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
He explained that the party agreed to work with the president in line with Raila’s wish to keep Kenya stable and united.
According to the senator, ODM’s presence in both the National Assembly and Senate is what currently protects Ruto from political turbulence.
“If ODM pulls out, Ruto might not survive. The numbers in Parliament would easily allow for his impeachment,” Kajwang said, hinting that the president’s fate could mirror that of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from office in 2024.
Kajwang added that Raila Odinga had advised against toppling leaders through political games, saying such actions only divide the country further.
“We are in government to stabilize it, not to destroy it,” he said.
He also reminded critics that ODM’s participation in government has brought development to Nyanza, a region that had long been sidelined.“Our aim is to ensure our people also benefit from national resources,” he noted.
The senator dismissed claims that ODM’s involvement should guarantee them the deputy presidency or other top positions.
