For many young people in Kenya today, alcohol has slowly become part of daily life. What often starts as casual drinking with friends during weekends gradually turns into a dangerous habit that destroys careers, families, relationships, and personal dreams. Sadly, many people only realize the damage after it is too late....WATCH THE VIDEO.
One Kenyan man from Nairobi has painfully opened up about how alcohol completely changed his life and left him struggling to regain control. Speaking anonymously during an interview, the 34-year-old man admitted that he never imagined alcohol would one day become something he could not live without.
According to him, his drinking journey started shortly after securing his first stable job. At first, it was harmless fun with colleagues after work. Every Friday evening they would gather at clubs and bars to celebrate the end of the week. He says the excitement, loud music, and company of friends made alcohol feel normal and enjoyable.
“I thought I was just enjoying life like every other young person,” he explained. “I never imagined I would become dependent on alcohol.”
However, things slowly changed. What started as weekend drinking became daily drinking. Soon, he found himself taking alcohol before work, during lunch breaks, and even late at night alone in his house. The habit became stronger every month.
His family started noticing strange behavior. He became aggressive, isolated himself from relatives, and constantly borrowed money from friends. His work performance also declined sharply. Despite receiving several warnings from his employer, he continued drinking heavily.
The man says his relationships suffered the most. His longtime girlfriend eventually left him after repeated arguments caused by his drinking habits. He admitted that alcohol made him emotionally unavailable and irresponsible.
