What Mama Ida Odinga Did To Other ODM Leaders After Hugging Senator Edwin Sifuna

During a gathering at the Odinga family home in Karen on Wednesday, January 7, a poignant moment of quiet symbolism took center stage as political leaders came together to commemorate what would have been Raila Odinga’s 81st birthday.

Despite his passing, the atmosphere at the residence was one of celebration, with supporters choosing to honor his legacy, principles, and enduring impact on Kenya’s political landscape.

Among the attendees was Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, whose position within the party recently sparked vigorous debate.

His presence was particularly highlighted by an interaction that many observers found significant.

In a video that gained significant attention online, Mama Ida Odinga is seen welcoming arriving leaders to the Karen home.

She exchanged polite handshakes with several lawmakers, including Lang’ata MP Jalang’o, Makadara MP George Aladwa, and Kasarani MP Donald Krauri.

However, when Sifuna approached her, the exchange shifted; Mama Ida embraced the senator warmly, holding him in a moment that seemed intentional and reassuring.

This clip, which circulated widely, prompted discussions among ODM supporters, with many interpreting the hug as a sign of confidence and subtle endorsement.

General Osumo commented on this moment, noting that while others received handshakes, Sifuna was greeted with a heartfelt hug, referring to him as “Mama’s heart in the ODM Party.”

Sifuna has recently encountered calls from some party members for his resignation, mainly due to his vocal stance against the Broad-Based Government and President William Ruto’s administration.

In this context, Mama Ida’s gesture was seen by many as a message of solidarity and support.
