Wetangula Presses Wamalwa to Join Ruto's Camp As Luhya Leaders Seal Fresh Power Deal Ahead of 2027

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has urged Eugene Wamalwa to leave the united opposition and join leaders backing President William Ruto. He said unity among Luhya leaders will grow influence in Western Kenya. The call was made as political plans for future elections take shape.

Wetangula spoke during the burial of former councillor Johnstone Barasa in Kiminini Trans Nzoia County on January 24 2026. Wamalwa was present at the event and listened as the appeal was made in public. The moment turned a funeral into a strong political stage.

He announced a renewed pact bringing together himself Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya. The trio said the agreement will boost support for Ruto across the region. They also want the Mulembe Nation to gain weight in talks about the 2032 succession.

Wetangula said a united front will help deliver the Luhya vote as one strong bloc. He argued that division has weakened the community for many years. According to him unity will also attract development and respect at the national table.

The alliance links Ford Kenya figures with former rivals now working with the Kenya Kwanza government. Oparanya a senior ODM leader has already crossed lines to work with the administration. Mudavadi now serves as Prime Cabinet Secretary and a key bridge to Western Kenya.
