Internal Conflicts in ODM Deepens as Vocal Senator Threatens to Leave If Sifuna Is Expelled

Vihiga Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) deputy party leader Godfrey Osotsi has publicly defended ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who is facing calls for expulsion from the party, emphasizing that any attempt to remove him would be met with strong resistance.

Speaking in Kakamega County, Osotsi described Sifuna as a loyal party member whose actions reflect the vision and guidance of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“Na tena, yule katibu mkuu wa chama cha ODM, Sifuna, ni kijana yetu hapa. Mimi nilisema nikiwa kule Kakamega kama Baba ako hai kwamba mkifukuza Sifuna, ata mimi nitaenda. Na bado niko na hiyo msimamo,” Osotsi stated, signaling his unwavering support for Sifuna and his readiness to take a firm stand against any internal efforts to sideline the party secretary.

Osotsi further explained that Sifuna’s statements and decisions should not be questioned, as they are rooted in the strategic guidance he received from Raila Odinga, underlining Sifuna’s role in carrying forward the party’s core mission.

The Vihiga senator’s defense comes amid growing tensions within ODM, with some party members reportedly pushing for Sifuna’s removal, claiming disagreements over party strategies and public statements. Osotsi dismissed these threats as attempts to destabilize the party and weaken its leadership structures.

He also reiterated that ODM must prioritize internal unity and respect for established leadership while navigating post-Raila Odinga transitions.

By defending Sifuna, Osotsi is signaling a broader stance within the party to uphold loyalty and continuity, particularly among officials who remain committed to the late leader’s agenda.

As ODM continues to navigate internal restructuring and the leadership vacuum left by Raila Odinga’s passing, Osotsi’s firm backing of Sifuna underscores the party’s emphasis on cohesion, continuity, and adherence to the late leader’s vision, signaling a clear message against factionalism.
