Many expressed frustration and confusion over the implementation of the programme, saying the first tranche of the business start-up fund has not reflected on their Pochi la Biashara mobile wallets or through any other official channel.
The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) programme is a government-led initiative aimed at helping young people start businesses and become self-reliant.
Each registered youth is supposed to receive KSh 50,000 in total, with KSh 22,000 released as the first installment.
The government announced that payments had begun in some areas, including Turkana, as part of the second phase of the programme.
However, many youths claim they have not received any funds despite completing all registration procedures and attending verification activities.
Others noted that information about the programme is unclear, and the disbursement process remains a major challenge for many.
The government has yet to officially respond to the complaints from Turkana youths, although the relevant ministry had earlier issued warnings about scams targeting programme applicants prior to the official disbursement.
