86-Year Old ODM Braces Himself for Bitter Contest as He Eyes Third Straight Term in Parliament

After 37 years of trying to be elected to Parliament, Karachuonyo MP Andrew Adipo Okuome's big political break came in 2017 when he clinched the seat on an ODM party ticket.

The decision by the then incumbent James Rege to decamp from ODM and join Jubilee Party was a blessing to Adipo Okuome who bagged the ODM party ticket.

In 2022, the voters trusted him again when they reelected him to Parliament. And now, as the clock ticks towards the 2027 general election, the veteran lawmaker is once again the race for a seat in the National Assembly.

At 86 years, Adipo Okuome is the oldest MP in Nyanza and Kenya as a whole. But as he seeks another term, will his advanced age play to his disadvantage?

There is no doubt that his rivals will use the issue of his advanced age as a political weapon to unseat him. But if he bags the ODM party ticket, there is no doubt that Okuome will easily secure a third straight term.
