Speaking to residents during a public engagement, Nyoro revealed that parents will now pay KSh500 per term in all day secondary schools under the Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme.
The announcement was met with loud cheers as residents welcomed the news, terming it a huge relief amid the rising cost of living.
Since the programme was launched in 2023, parents had been contributing KSh1,000 per term per student. The new directive effectively cuts that amount by half, easing the financial burden on households with school-going children.
Nyoro said the decision was informed by feedback from parents and a commitment to ensure education remains accessible to every child in Kiharu.
He noted that many families have been struggling to keep up with education-related expenses, especially in the current economic climate.
The MP emphasized that the reduction would not compromise the quality of education or school operations, adding that the constituency has put measures in place to bridge the funding gap.
According to Nyoro, education remains a key pillar of development, and investing in learners is investing in the future of the constituency.
He also challenged school administrators to ensure accountability and proper use of funds to benefit students directly.
Residents praised the move, saying it demonstrated responsive leadership and a clear understanding of grassroots challenges.
Parents who attended the meeting said the reduced fee would allow them to allocate resources to other basic needs, including food, healthcare, and transport.
Some residents described the announcement as timely, especially for families with more than one child in secondary school.
The Kiharu Masomo Bora Programme has been credited with improving school attendance and easing access to education since its inception.
With the new changes, many residents expressed optimism that more students will stay in school and complete their studies without interruption.
As cheers filled the venue, Nyoro assured residents that his office remains committed to policies that directly improve livelihoods and promote equal opportunities through education.
