Museveni Clinches 7th Term as Uganda's President With 7.9 Million Votes

Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has won a historic seventh term in office, consolidating his four-decade rule after securing 7,946,772 votes, equivalent to 71.65 percent of the ballots cast in the January 15, 2026 presidential election.

The outcome, announced by the Uganda Electoral Commission, cements Museveni’s domination of the country’s political landscape and extends his leadership well into the next decade.

According to official results, Museveni’s chief challenger, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine and representing the National Unity Platform (NUP), garnered 2,741,238 votes, or 24.72 percent of total votes cast, a distant second place.
