Kanini Kega Declare Winnie Odinga the True Heir to Baba's Legacy

EALA MP Hon. Kanini Kega recently stirred political conversations online after taking to his official social media platforms to praise Winnie Odinga, the daughter of the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In his post, Hon. Kega stated that Winnie Odinga possesses all the qualities that made her father an iconic leader, drawing a direct comparison between her political influence and that of the late Raila Odinga.

The remarks came shortly after Winnie Odinga held a separate Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi County.

The event coincided with a parallel ODM engagement led by Dr. Oburu Odinga in Kakamega County, highlighting a growing dynamic within the party as different factions mobilize their support bases.

Kega’s post quickly attracted attention on social media, with many netizens expressing agreement and admiration for his views. Among the responses, George Njunge wrote, “Uncle Oburu has seen with his own eyes today as the lioness roared in Baba's bedroom.

The new blood will wrestle ODM from Broad-based.” His comment reflected a sense of anticipation that Winnie Odinga could emerge as a significant force in the party, symbolizing a generational shift in leadership.

Similarly, another follower, Moses Nyukuri, echoed the sentiment, writing, “Very true Hon, in fact, Baba is living and alive in her.” Nyukuri’s comment underscores the perception among supporters that Winnie Odinga carries forward her father’s legacy and political charisma, positioning her as a natural inheritor of his influence within ODM.

Hon. Kega’s support for Winnie Odinga is particularly noteworthy given his long-standing political alignment with the late Prime Minister.

In the last general elections, Kega, the former MP for Kieni Constituency, publicly supported Raila Odinga, demonstrating a consistent loyalty to the Odinga political family.

Currently, both Kega and Winnie Odinga serve as members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), further strengthening their political connection and shared vision for the region.

The online reactions to Kega’s post suggest that Winnie Odinga is steadily gaining recognition and support, not only from the public but also from established politicians who see in her the continuation of Raila Odinga’s political ideals.

As ODM navigates internal dynamics, the rising influence of Winnie Odinga could signal a new chapter in the party’s leadership and strategy, with seasoned allies like Kanini Kega lending their support.
