Winnie, Raila’s last-born daughter, was speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Tuesday night, January 27.
In her remarks, she explained that the conversations she shared with Raila were private and held significant personal meaning. She stated that sharing such discussions with the public would be disrespectful, as they were not intended for a wider audience.
According to Winnie, the bond she shared with her father was marked by intimate moments that went beyond public life and politics.
She disclosed that on the night before Raila passed away, the two spent several hours together in his room. During that time, they discussed a wide range of issues, reflecting on matters that were meaningful to them as father and daughter.
Winnie maintained that these moments were personal and should remain so, reinforcing her position on safeguarding the dignity of the departed.
Winnie also addressed claims by some leaders within the Orange Democratic Movement who have spoken publicly about what Raila allegedly told them before his death.
She expressed concern over such statements, stating that it was not appropriate for individuals to bring forward private assertions about the late leader’s final words. She maintained that doing so was disrespectful and shifted focus away from honoring his memory.
Raila Odinga died in October last year while undergoing treatment in India. His passing marked a significant moment in the country’s political history.
