"I am Neither in Tutam nor Wantam", Ruth Odinga Clears the Air on Political Camps

Ruth Odinga has explained that she does not associate with the emerging camps referred to as ‘Tutam’ and ‘Wantam’. While addressing a public gathering, Ruth said, "From where I come from, the things that matter in politics remain the same, and this is what I keep focusing on.”

All this is occurring against a background where the split between Tutam-Wantam continues to feature prominently in intensive discussions among supporters of many political parties amid the approaching voting in 2027.

Reactions to her statements have been mixed. While some Kenyan officials appreciated her posture of remaining neutral, others queried her statements in regard to any future realignment.

While pointing out that the rise of these labels corresponds to increasing divisions between the parties, it is also noted that the movement of the leaders is already playing its role.

“Up to now, Odinga’s position has added a new twist to the debate as to whether more politicians are likely to remain neutral or come out openly to support either Kenyatta or Kalonzo,” according to the Standard.
