The allegations stem from a chaotic incident on January 25, 2026, at Witima ACK Church in Othaya, Nyeri County, where Gachagua was attending a Sunday service.
According to Malala, unidentified goons, backed by police, stormed the church, unleashing violence on worshippers. Teargas canisters were lobbed into the congregation, live bullets fired, and vehicles, including Gachagua's, were set ablaze.
In a video statement circulated widely on social media, Malala claimed three hooded men forcibly seized Gachagua amid the pandemonium and whisked him to an unknown location.
He issued a one-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding Gachagua's immediate production, and directly implicated Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in a purported scheme to abduct and poison the ex-DP.
Gachagua, however, emerged safe hours later at his Wamunyoro residence, debunking the abduction claims but escalating the narrative. In a defiant address, he described the attack as a state-sponsored assassination attempt by a "killer squad" embedded with local police, allegedly under President William Ruto's orders.
"They tried to kill me," Gachagua stated, recounting how he jumped over a fence to escape with help from residents after his security detail was overwhelmed. He appealed to supporters to disperse peacefully, noting dismantled sound systems and disabled vehicles.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation. Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka called it a "grave violation of the Constitution," holding the Inspector General of Police accountable.
This comes amid Gachagua's aggressive positioning as a challenger to Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections, including plans to tour marginalized regions like Northern Kenya to highlight development disparities.
As investigations loom, the Othaya chaos underscores deepening rifts within Kenya's political landscape, with Gachagua's DCP emerging as a vocal opposition force. Police have yet to issue an official statement, but the event has fueled calls for accountability and raised alarms over political violence in the country.
