Babu Owino Declares Support for Winnie Odinga, Calls for ODM Leadership Change

Embakasi East MP Hon. Babu Owino has thrown his weight behind Winnie Odinga, daughter of the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga, amid rising tensions in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking on his official social media accounts, Owino called for the party to be returned to its “official owners,” arguing that the current leadership has failed to steer ODM in the right direction.

Owino confirmed that he has joined Winnie Odinga’s camp, noting that during her speech at Kamukunji Grounds on Sunday, January 18, 2026, she relayed his greetings to the large crowd that had gathered.

The MP’s statement reflects a growing split within ODM, highlighting the contest over leadership and party direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Netizens responded swiftly to Owino’s post. A user, Lloyd Lloyd, wrote: “I propose, one and only, Hon. Babu Owino, for the party leadership. Once done, the party will outgrow and dwarf any tribal alignment posing as a political party in the Republic of Kenya.” Another follower, Davy Oleaminal, commented: “Unless you organize yourselves like real men, nothing will come on a silver plate.”

Owino’s declaration signals a deepening realignment within ODM and indicates that Winnie Odinga’s faction is gaining support from influential MPs ahead of critical political negotiations.
