Woman Arrested After Husband Dies in Bar Altercation in Bomet

Police in Bomet County are investigating a tragic incident where a man lost his life after a fight with his wife turned deadly inside a local bar.

The confrontation, which happened on Monday morning, has left residents of Chepalungu Sub-county in shock.

The couple, identified as Bernard Kipkoech, 36, and his wife Sharon Cherotich, 32, were reportedly drinking together at a small bar in Kaplele village, located about one kilometre from Kapkuen Police Station.

What started as a disagreement soon escalated into a violent clash that ended with Bernard fatally wounded.

According to police reports, the argument intensified quickly, leading Cherotich to allegedly break a beer bottle and use the sharp glass to stab her husband.

The attack happened at around 10:40 a.m., with witnesses saying the confrontation happened in full view of other patrons.

Bomet County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga confirmed the incident, noting that early investigations suggest the stabbing occurred during a heated exchange between the two.

He stated that Bernard suffered a deep cut to the neck, which caused severe bleeding.

After the attack, Bernard was rushed to Tennek Mission Hospital, where medics attempted to save his life.

Unfortunately, he was declared dead shortly after arriving at the facility due to excessive blood loss.

Police officers moved swiftly to arrest Cherotich, who was still at the scene when authorities arrived.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) also visited the bar to document the evidence and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.

The incident has sparked concern in the area, with many locals expressing worry over the rise in domestic disputes turning violent.

Community leaders have called for more support systems for families struggling with conflict, noting that many similar cases have been reported in recent months.

In a separate case reported last month, residents of Mai Mahiu in Naivasha were left shaken after a man allegedly poisoned his two young children before taking his own life.

The man, who was said to be in his late twenties, had been involved in a dispute with his estranged wife prior to the incident.

The mother, Mary Karuku, discovered the bodies after being unable to reach him and reporting the matter to police.

She later appealed for help with burial expenses, expressing her devastation over the loss of her children.
