ODM Chair Gladys Wanga Reaffirms Party’s Commitment to Unity While Keeping 2027 Options Open

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Chairperson, Gladys Wanga, has stated that the party will continue to champion the unifying vision left behind by the late Party Leader, Raila Odinga, by supporting and participating in the broad-based government.

Speaking during a party consultative meeting, Wanga said that the decision to remain in the inclusive administration was guided by the principles of peace, unity, and national cohesion — values Raila Odinga consistently fought for throughout his political career.

Wanga noted that Raila’s legacy was not built on political hostility, but on efforts to bridge divisions and push for equal opportunity across Kenya’s social, political, and economic landscapes.

She affirmed that ODM will honour those ideals as a tribute to his leadership and as a responsibility to the millions who believed in his vision.

However, Wanga clarified that the party’s participation in the broad-based government should not be misinterpreted as political surrender or long-term alignment.

She emphasized that ODM remains a strong and independent political entity with its own identity, structures, and strategic goals.

According to her, when 2027 approaches, ODM will objectively evaluate the political environment and make a decision that best serves the party, its supporters, and the Kenyan people.

Wanga further urged members to stay united, focused, and disciplined, reminding them that internal cohesion is key to future success.

She also encouraged ongoing political education among party followers to ensure informed engagement rather than reactionary politics.

Her remarks have been viewed as a balancing act between honouring history and preparing for the future, signalling that ODM intends to remain relevant, organised, and competitive in the coming political cycle.

As Kenya heads towards another election season, the party’s next steps will be closely watched.
