Her journey began with a mother's sacrifice, a borrowed loan and a one-way trip to a foreign country where she knew nobody and had no confirmed job waiting for her.
In a deeply personal account shared on social media, Peris recalled how her mother turned to a local women's chama to raise money for her daughter's journey to Dubai.
The borrowed money was used to pay for Peris' visa, flight ticket and other expenses, with her mother also giving her KSh15,000 to help her survive as she searched for employment.
Every shilling mattered. Peris said the money had to cover several expenses, including transport from Sipili to Nairobi and her initial accommodation costs after arriving in Dubai.
Determined to stretch the little money she had, she even spent the night before her departure at a former classmate's home in Utawala instead of paying for a hotel.
It was also her first time travelling by air. When Peris arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, she looked at the aircraft on the tarmac with excitement.
The moment was supposed to mark the beginning of a new chapter, but the reality of what she was about to undertake soon became overwhelming.
