Syumi Wendy recently turned to social media to share her family's painful story, hoping that someone who knew her mother during the late 1990s or early 2000s could provide information that may finally help reunite them.
According to Syumi, her mother, Mary, was last seen in the Githurai area of Nairobi around the year 2000. At the time, Mary was reportedly experiencing mental health difficulties, circumstances that made it difficult for her family to establish where she went after disappearing.
More than 26 years later, Syumi has refused to give up hope.
In an emotional Facebook appeal, she asked people who lived in Githurai during the 1990s and around the beginning of the new millennium to look carefully at her mother's photograph and consider whether they might remember seeing her.
Her appeal was directed particularly at people who lived around the Githurai Reflo area, where Mary was reportedly last seen.
Syumi believes that someone who lived in the neighbourhood during that period may have encountered her mother or heard information about her disappearance. Even the smallest detail, she hopes, could help the family establish what happened after Mary vanished.
