The tension became public when Sifuna strongly criticized ODM’s political partnership with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government. His remarks appeared to go against Raila’s recent statements supporting the unity deal until 2027.
“Our partnership with Kenya Kwanza is hurting us as a party,” said Sifuna during a political forum in Nairobi.
“They have failed to honor the agreement, and I believe the deal is dead.”
This has left ODM supporters uncertain over who to believe. While Raila insists the partnership will continue for the sake of national unity, Sifuna says staying close to the current government is weakening the party’s ability to prepare for the next election.
