Why Local Medical Treatment Was Not Working on Raila - Oburu Odinga

Raila Odinga’s elder brother, Dr. Oburu Odinga, has opened up about the former Prime Minister’s illness and revealed why his local treatment in Kenya did not work as expected.

Speaking during a television interview, Oburu said Raila had developed a blood clot in his head, which doctors in Nairobi were treating using strong steroid medication.

However, instead of helping him recover, the medicine began to weaken him physically.

“Doctors were doing their best here at home, but the medicine they used was too powerful for his body. It made him feel tired and frail, forcing him to stay away from public events,” Oburu said.

According to him, this was the reason Raila skipped some key political and social functions, including the burial of former Rongo MP Dalmas Otieno, where Oburu attended on his behalf.

Around the same time, the ODM party’s 20th anniversary celebrations were also postponed.

After several consultations between local and international doctors, President William Ruto stepped in to help the Odinga family find better medical care abroad.
