Meline Waithera was the daughter of former Deputy Inspector General of Police Edward Mbugua, a senior police officer who played a key role in the establishment of Utumishi Girls Academy. 

The school was created to serve children of police officers and security personnel, providing a structured learning environment within the police service ecosystem.

Following her untimely death in 2021, a dormitory at the institution was named in her honour. A memorial garden was also established within the school compound to preserve her memory, symbolising her family’s connection to the institution and her lasting legacy within the police community.

How Meline Waithera died

Meline Waithera died in June 2021 at the age of 25 after a tragic road accident in Nairobi. Reports indicated that she suffered fatal injuries after being caught between two public service vehicles in the city centre.
