"It's Better I Vote For Ruto Than Gachagua" New Twist As Opposition Leader From Mt Kenya Declares

Speaking during a radio interview on Monday, June 8, Wambugu argued that while he has been critical of President Ruto’s administration, he believes Gachagua would be a worse alternative at the moment.

The outspoken former legislator stated that if Kenyans were forced to choose between the two leaders, he would cast his vote for the incumbent president.

Wambugu also questioned the readiness of the opposition coalition to challenge Ruto in the next election.

According to him, opposition leaders have yet to present a credible and widely acceptable candidate capable of mounting a serious challenge against the President.

He suggested that the coalition’s hesitation in naming a presidential flag bearer reflects internal competition among its principals, many of whom are believed to harbor presidential ambitions.

Wambugu argued that the alliance would eventually be compelled to settle on one candidate, a process he believes could expose divisions within the opposition camp.

The former MP further maintained that delaying the announcement of a presidential candidate could weaken the opposition’s preparations ahead of the highly anticipated 2027 race.

His remarks come amid growing debate over Gachagua’s political future following his impeachment and his subsequent efforts to position himself as a key opposition figure.

Several leaders allied to Gachagua have continued to insist that he remains the strongest candidate to challenge Ruto.

Among them is Nyandarua Senator John Methu, who recently argued that Gachagua commands significant political support and is best placed to lead the opposition coalition’s presidential bid rather than serve as a running mate.
