Speaking during a church service in Nyeri, Gachagua said addressing insecurity in the country would be among his first priorities.

He specifically referred to the so-called “shoot-on-the-leg” order, vowing to cancel it immediately.

“Rigathi Gachagua will rescind the order by William Ruto to shoot on the leg,” he declared.

Gachagua expressed concern over the rising crime rate, particularly in Nairobi, where gangs armed with knives and guns are reportedly committing robberies in broad daylight. He said such lawlessness has left citizens living in fear.

“In Nairobi at 6:30 pm, you can’t walk around safely. People with guns and knives are attacking innocent citizens openly. These gangs were used in politics, but now they terrorize people to make a living. We will dismantle them and restore security,” he said.

He also referred to the recent assassination of lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot multiple times in Nairobi. Gachagua described the incident as a reflection of the growing insecurity in urban areas.

In addition to security, Gachagua addressed economic concerns, particularly the housing levy that has reduced Kenyans’ purchasing power.

He promised to restore dignity to citizens’ payslips by scrapping the levy and returning funds collected from the Affordable Housing program.

Under his plan, county governments would manage the houses, collect rent, and repay contributors directly.

“I will restore the dignity of the payslip on the first day in office by scrapping the housing levy. All houses will be managed by counties, and rent collected will go back to the citizens whose money was deducted,” Gachagua said.
