"He's Not My Politician, He's My Brother" — Lawyer Wahome Thuku Opens Up On Rare Bond With Matiang'i

Lawyer Wahome Thuku has made a striking declaration about his closeness to Jubilee deputy party leader Dr. Fred Matiang'i, describing their relationship in deeply personal terms that go beyond ordinary political alliance.

Thuku said Matiang'i is not just a "presidential politician" to him but a "presidential friend," insisting their bond runs deeper than any other relationship he holds with politicians of similar stature.

"We talk like brothers, in a way that I don't talk with other politicians at that level," Thuku stated, underlining a friendship that appears to have endured across Matiang'i's transition from powerful Cabinet Secretary to leading 2027 presidential contender.

The remarks come as Thuku has increasingly positioned himself as one of Matiang'i's most vocal defenders in the court of public opinion, regularly weighing in on Facebook to counter criticism against the former Interior CS and to push back on narratives from rival camps within the fractured opposition.

Thuku has previously downplayed suggestions that Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for Citizens Party holds decisive sway over Mt Kenya, arguing instead that the region would still turn out and vote for either Kalonzo Musyoka, Matiang'i or President Ruto regardless of who mobilises on the ground.

Matiang'i, who served as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government from 2017 to 2022 under President Uhuru Kenyatta and was once dubbed a "Super Cabinet Secretary" for his sweeping executive powers, has emerged as a key figure in opposition calculations ahead of the 2027 General Election, with reports suggesting Kenyatta himself is backing the former minister as a potential presidential contender against Ruto.
