The Ministry of Gender, Culture, and Children Services has responded to a petition seeking the relocation of the remains of Kenya’s founding President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, from Parliament Buildings in Nairobi to his ancestral home in Gatundu, Kiambu County.
The petition was filed by a Kenyan citizen, John Mweha, who argued that the mausoleum’s current location at Parliament Grounds was not in line with traditional African values.
According to him, the resting place of the country’s first President should reflect cultural practices and family ties rather than political symbolism.“This is a sincere, non-partisan appeal to initiate a dignified, consultative, and culturally sensitive process for relocating the remains of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta from Parliament to Gatundu,” read part of his petition.
